The 2024 spring cohort of the HBCU Student Journalism Network.

The Open Campus HBCU Student Journalism Network is a remote, paid reporting fellowship. Launched in 2023, our editors work with student journalists across the country to provide professional development and fosters increased coverage of historically Black colleges and universities. Over the course of a semester, you will:

Select stories will be published with regional and national outlets. Select stories have been republished by The Washington Post, Capital B, and others.

Connect with student journalists from other HBCUs and meet professionals from newsrooms across the country. Each fellow will be paired with a professional mentor.

Our team will help you turn ideas into polished enterprise stories, and guide you through the process. We’ll offer tips and training to help you grow as a journalist, and edit your work.

This fellowship is part-time. Work 10-15 hours each week during the academic semester.
